When Mr Jules suggested we got ourselves a Christmas Tree yesterday I was most surprised. What has happened to Bah Humbug?? But he seemed to think that it was important as we are so far away from friends and family. Plus it would give me a place to put the presents I had collected on my UK trip.
So off to Hill Road in Bandra we went (putting my own Christmas Shopping Guide to the test), where, after inspecting everything on offer,we selected a nice plastic made-in-China tree and tree ornaments. It was quite a weird feeling to buy this stuff in the heat of the Mumbai sun. But I am pleased with the results. And the orange baubles match the colour scheme of our sitting room!

Tree by day... This five foot tree cost 2,200 Rs. (after haggling) at a shop on Hill Road (shop opposite a row of Christmas market stalls ..didn't get the name) |
Poinsettias we bought in Santacruz |

Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Each year you bring to me delight, meaning in the christmas night
Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging
Oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging
Your boughs are green, in sommers glow and do not fade in winters snow

Each year you bring to me delight, meaning in the christmas night

Hi, just found your blog via Liz!
ReplyDeleteLove the Anokhi fabrics you showed in an earlier blog post and which Liz shared on her blog - its amazing how they make the woodblocks so detailed and neat.
Your Xmas tree looks great - it must be strange celebrating Christmas so far from home.
Wishing you both a great Christmas!
Gill
Hi Gilly, thanks for writing and reading the blog! Yes those woodblocks were amazing - they have such basic tools to make those but years and years of experience and artistry. It is a bit wierd celebrating Christmas in the heat...the only ever time I did it is when I went to Madeira over the Christmas Hols...sitting at a beach side cafe eating dressed crab! Happy Christmas to you to! BombayJules
DeleteLove the colors on your tree!
